I read the bad reviews of the way this tuner works so I was suspect but bought it anyway becuase it had the cord finder and a metronome. The cord finder is great and the metronome it spot-on. The tuner does jump a little from time to time, but I've had no problems tuning with it. I've tuned my guitar and my band mates bass and it's been flawless. As I mentioned it jumps a little when ther is no sound or when the sound from the string starts to die down (I've never seen a tuner that doesn't do this), but as soon as I pluck the string it reads steady and accurate. I have noticed that it works much better when plugged in. Another band mate has tuned his acoustic many times with it and unless the room is pretty quite the tuner has a hard time. But that's to be expected with any tuner. I'm glad I bought this tuner and would suggest that any guitar player get one.

Having become tired of thumbing thru my chord book while learning new songs, I decided to give an electonic chord finder a shot. While having a tuner and a metronome weren't necessities, I decided to still go with the Planet Waves CTM combo. My son just got his first electric so I figured having a second tuner wasn't a bad idea.
I would have given 4.5 stars but had to choose between 4 and 5. I had went the conservative route and chose 4 (although I really do like the device.)
The Chord Finder: I was concerned that the user interface might be cumbersome given the fact that you "scroll" thru the different chords. I envisioned watching a few thousand chords fly thru the window while I searched for the one I needed. That is not the case. Because the chords are grouped by root (C, D, E [with flats and sharps], etc.), type (major, minor, etc.) and variance (7, 9, add 9, sus 4, etc.) it takes almost no time at all to find the chord you're looking for. Once found, the up and down keys scroll you thru the vaious neck/fret postions where the chord (usually barred) can be played. After a few minutes of playing with it, it easliy took less time to find a chord than using the book that I have.
The Metronome: This is my first experience with a metronome but I foresee using it. I've recently started playing some songs that to me have an unusual tempo. I will have to experiment, but it may come in handy. It is relatively loud (a plus for me) and has no volume control. However, if you mute it, the the "beat" is still maintained by the flashing LEDs; with the down beat/first beat of a measure being a different color (lights flash when not muted as well and first beat is acoustically accented.) The beats per measure can be set to 1 thru 9 and the tempo (beats per minute) from 20 to 250.
The Tuner: While the tuner may not be the easiest to use, it does work. Once I got used to it (though some may not) it tunes as well as my Quik Tune tuner. That being said, if you want just a tuner, there are better values out there (I still love my Quik Tunes). The major complaint with the tuner is that it seems to be all over the chart. And I agree to an extent. I don't know if it's "too" sensitive or not sensitive enough, but it is difficult to lock in. The solution that I found is simple (whehter via the line in or the built in mic), continually pick the string at an even rate while adjusitng the tension. This seems to alleviate the wild flucuations of the LEDs. Which brings me to my biggest compliant...the use of the LEDs to indicate "tuned", sharp or flat. I'm used to watching the deflection of a needle to center scale to tune a string. To me it is much more intuitive to tune this way. In furture versions I would add the needle to the device.
Screen: Easily readable in most light even without the backlight on. Although I kind of like the cool oragnce glow. The only time the display is difficult to read with the backlight off is when you tilt the top of the device away from you. While looking straight on, if you begin to rotate the device top away from you, the underlying LCD elements become visible almost immediately and get more pronounced as you continue to rotate. You can still discern the chord up to about 10 or 15 degree deflection but at 45 degrees you see only the underlying LCD elements. With the backlight on, you get the same reuslts (for the most part) by rotating in any direction. This really a minor flaw and should not disuade you from purchasing.
Backlight: Again, I like the orange glow. In most lighting situations it is more readable without the backlight lit. In bright light the backlight washes out the screen. However, when needed, it does a nice job.
Quality: It is plastic but seems durable enough. Some have commented that they felt the kick stand wouldn't hold up. I can see that, but only time and use will tell. The buttons have nice feel to them. Overall it appears to be well made.
Value: Worth the price. I would recommend to a friend.

I have used this many times to find out how to forma chord. I am pretty new to guitar so this is a big help. It could, and should, be brighter, but that is my only gripe. It has helped me numerous times already and save me from shuffling through chord books. I have also used the metronome when mine was not available. All in all, if it covers the things you are looking for, it does work and, at least for me, was well worth it.
